Stillwater Middle School robotics team is going to state!

The Stillwater Middle School First Lego League robotics team, Gaters 2.25, is heading to the state competition after winning the Champions award at the recent regional competition.

The Champions award is given to the team who performs best in all judging areas in each division. The students competed against 48 teams in the categories of Project, Core Values, Robot performance and Robot Design & Programming. Team members include Ananya Chari, Will Foote, Hallie Hansen, and Owen Uglem.

Working with new robot components and new Scratch-based coding language, the team successfully designed, built, and programmed a robot, and won the robot performance award in their twelve-team division! The team had some amazing experiences researching for their innovation project seeking to solve a problem in transportation and cargo delivery. Several team members said the highlight of the year was touring and meeting with engineers at the UPS facility at the Minneapolis airport. The did further research through Zoom meetings with a UPS Pilot and a Logistics expert, and also met with a local UPS driver on his truck.

This is the third straight year Stillwater Middle School students have competed at state! The team is hoping to build on the success of last year’s team, which won an award for best project at state.
