SMS Distance Learning Information & Schedules
Stillwater Middle School will be transitioning to distance learning starting on Monday, November 16th. In anticipation of this change in learning model, our staff has worked hard to prepare your students for this new environment. In addition to the information shared with you two weeks ago, linked here, our staff has taken multiple opportunities to help students practice using Zoom, show them where assignments are/will be in Schoology, and explain the daily schedule to them. Hopefully, this has built your student’s confidence with our transition to distance learning. Here are some of the key points that have been shared with your student.
-
We expect that you will attend all of your classes four days per week, Monday through Thursday
-
Attend classes according to your school schedule (if you have math during period 1, attend your math class during period 1 on the attached Distance Learning Schedule)
-
Attendance will be taken at the beginning each hour - please be on time
-
This is school therefore, all school rules apply while in class on Zoom
-
“C” days are still the same - students are expected to log into Schoology and complete the assigned work
Linked below is the updated Distance Learning Schedule. This schedule has been modified from our hybrid class schedule to ensure that:
- Students can get small group help from teachers during class and during other designated times
- The whole school eats lunch at a reasonable time
- There is ample transition time between classes
- Students with individualized education plans receive all of their required services
- The parameters given by Governor Walz in his latest executive order about teacher preparation time are met
Please pay special attention to the course hours in 7th and 8th grade that are out of order to accommodate the lunch period.
Tomorrow, your student’s teaching team will send a document that includes Zoom links for each of their classes. Zoom links will also be provided on each teacher’s Schoology page.
We know that distance learning is not the best educational model for every student. Hopefully, we will be back together soon. In the meantime, we believe this model will give your family structure, connection, and educational guidance while we are apart.
